Mili Mondays: Do You Re-enlist?

Mili Mondays: Do You Re-enlist?

For us this is NOT a choice. We wanted him to re-enlist pretty bad. We knew with having a baby on the way it was what was best for our family. It was how we wouldn't have to worry about struggling or going too broke. He would always have a job and we wouldn't have to worry. We would have to deal with more deployments but I would have to deal. It was military life. Well he tried to re-enlist. We went through the wait and wait some more. We wanted to see what our options were. Either shore duty or active duty on a ship. Well the Navy made it's mind up for us. With the Navy down sizing so much these days, they put your name into a computer and it decides for you. No seriously this is all true. He got told NO. So there went everything. My husband was beyond heartbroken. He had dreams of becoming a leader like a chief one day. He had dreams of retiring after 30 years in. He had dreams of serving his country and taking care of his family. Now they are all gone. He still has two years in the Navy reserves since it's what was in his contract from day one. They haven't given him time these past 3 months to get him ready to part from the ship at all. No time to work on paper work. No time to get a job back home. No time to move or get settled. The poor leadership is what is killing him. They don't take care of their Sailors. His date to get out of the Navy and into the reserves is Dec. 13th 2011. He was to take terminal leave in September/October but it never happened. Nov. 18th 2011 is the day he will finally be able to come home for good. PA is waiting for him!!
So we will be moving home to PAin about a month and either finding an apartment or buying a house we want. Very stressful lately. But hey military life is almost over and in a way I'm happy about it. I can have my husband back and not have to worry about deployments or underways. He will be around for our sons first year. He will be in my bed every night unless he works. He will finally be able to be happy and not screwed over. We will still have to deal with the reserves but I can handle that. I'm still a proud Navy wife and will always be proud of my husband. When I met him he was a Sailor and will always be a Sailor. He's a hero and always will be. Either local Vol. Firefighter hero or United States Sailor hero. I'm always gonna be proud of him!
